Questions To Ask A Roofer Before Hiring: Part 1
A Great Roofer in Greenville SC – Spartanburg SC – Upstate Area at Large …?
Easy, Reeves Construction
If your roof is missing shingles or leaking like when it rains, it may be time to replace your roof. We at Reeves Construction — Reeves Roof and Gutters – Roofing, Siding, Gutters, Windows, Fencing, — have compiled a list of 3 questions to ask you roof or roofing contractor before starting work on the roof. No matter if you are in Greenville SC, Spartanburg SC or anywhere in the Upstate area, apply this easy test to see if they are worthy.
Let’s face it, there a lots of roofing companies here in the Greenville, SC and Spartanburg, SC area, so you want to make sure you’re dealing with the most reputable companies who can provide the service you demand. And to take it another step further, it just seems that far too many contractors seem to get by without the scrutiny that should be applied. If the same principal was applied to each major home repair you (the homeowner) would be in far better position. Gutter repairman, driveway repair or sealing companies, home insulation and for some reason roofers seem to show up at the front door of many who never even called for help. Sadly, the elderly are targeted in just such a way as this. Protect yourself! Check out the companies first and the following questions just might help.
Roofing Question #1: Are you licensed?
Many handymen and such will quote small roofing projects which you don’t need a speciality roofing license up to a certain amount. But for larger roofing projects, like tear-offs and replacements, you need to ask and verity that your local roofing contractor is indeed properly licensed to do the work and pull all necessary permits. You never anticipate things going wrong, but should anything happen, having a licensed roofer will be of significant benefit to you.
Roofing Question #2: Do you have workman’s comp insurance?
This may be the most important question to ask your roofing company or for that matter, any contracting job you need for your home. No wait, it is. You see, ‘we’ all assume too much and this is an area where we allow wolves to get into the herd of sheep. And sadly, far too many “roofers” or roof contractors may try to get around this requirement because of how costly workers comp insurance can be. It is said that this is the single highest policy for any licensed contractor. They are taking chances when doing business without insurance but you as a homeowner or business owner, do not want to take those same chances with your roofing contractor. If someone falls off the ladder or roof while working on your home, you want to make sure they are insurance so you don’t get sued and have any liability whatsoever.
Roofing Question #3: Are you local? No seriously, are you actually local?
In short, you want the answer to always be yes. But, we would also advise you on checking into that answer a little further. Some roofers come to town, particularly after a big storm, and begin working with fury as if they are local when in fact, they are not. They come in with big trucks, established brands, local college hats, and pay-as-you-go phones from Walmart. And as far fetched as these very statements may seem, they are true! So again, ask if they are actually local. Check local listings. Check online. Do they have a website that even lists a local address or an address of a nearby locale. Check out their social media (Facebook) accounts. The issue with hiring someone from out of town, particular a “stormer” or “storm-chaser” as they are frequently referred to as, will not be available to service you as the client and certainly will not be available to maintain any warranty work which may come up in the future after the roof has been installed.
And realizing that this was a lot to take in, allow us to leave you with a little roofing humor … So there’s two men on a roof, pounding nails like crazy. One guy pounded a nail in, then picked up another. He was holding the nail upside down. He unexpectedly threw the nail away. He picked up another nail, right side up this time, and pounded this in. He eventually threw so many upside down nails away, that his friend came over. “Eh, what you doing? How come you’re throwing away all those nails?” he asked. “Because they’re upside down,” the friend replied. The other guy looks at the friend, then, after some thought, says, “You Idiot, save them for the ceiling!”
