North Carolina Hail Storm

North Carolina Hail Storm

On Sunday, April 15th 2018, North Carolina got a hail storm lasting one hour, with hail sizes ranging from quarter to golf ball size. Many people lost power, but thankfully the injuries were few. As one of the first hail storms of the season, this is only a small taste of what is likely to come. As a company that has been around since 1971, we have watched the weather patterns change and have a pretty good idea of how things work. With the weather being so strange this year, we can only assume that the storms and hail will be just as peculiar.

Hail forms when thunderstorm updrafts are strong enough to carry water drops far above the freezing level. This freezing process forms a hailstone, which can grow as additional water freezes onto it. Eventually, the hailstone becomes too heavy for the updrafts to support, and it falls to the ground. This is when a hail storm happens.

We have men on the ground everyday checking homes to ensure the safety of the homeowners in the area. Belmont, Charlotte, and Cramerton were hit the worst according to our reports. Some homeowners have saved some of the hailstones, and put them in their freezer. This might sound odd, but it is for better reasons than nostalgia. Having proof on hand that the hail was on your property could be the deciding factor in wether or not the insurance company will cover all the damage. When our teams find damage from the storm, we work with your insurance company to ensure you get the quickest and best quality of service. In most cases the insurance company will pay for what is damaged (i.e. Roof, soft metals, windows, etc.)

If you live in or near the affected area, we would be happy to come inspect your home at no charge. Just contact us via phone, 866-592-3632 or send us a message here on Facebook!
